Exploring Cornwall

A couple of years ago, I found myself feeling worn out with life and so, on a whim I decided to head down to Cornwall for a short holiday – with just me, myself and I.  When I was 25 I went travelling around Australia, Asia and the Cook Islands on my own and absolutely loved it.  I felt born to travel, and couldn’t get enough.  I was in need of a a similar experience, this time in the British Isles.  I had a day to find accommodation and after much phoning around as everywhere was booked, found the beautiful Tregaminion Farm in Polkerris…close to my favourite Cornish town, Fowey.

I wanted to discover as much as I could in those few days, so headed out on coastal walks, taking in the breathtaking scenery.  I swam in the sea, ate cream teas at The Dwelling House, my favourite tea shop in Fowey, visited the Eden Project and also the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery.

I remember how cold the sea was – it almost took my breathe away, even though the sun was blazing and Summer was in full swing.  However, it was the most refreshing dip in clear blue Cornish waters with boats bobbing close by.  I’ve always loved that feeling when you’re on holiday, swimming in the sea or a pool and you can hear the lapping of the water and look up to blue skies.  I can get lost in that – it’s heaven to me.

The couple that run Tregaminion Farm gave me a tour of their sprawling 200+ acre farm.  Tregaminion is a working farm selling their produce to supermarkets.  Part of their land has breathtaking views out to sea and acres of fields growing vegetables.

Don’t get me wrong, travelling alone is not always easy – having to eat alone is not so much fun, and I much prefer having my husband there to share these experiences with.  But, I did love the freedom of just making a last minute decision to get some much needed R&R and setting off with the windows down and the wind in my hair.

If you feel compelled to explore a place you’ve been longing to go and can’t organise anyone to go with you, I’d highly recommend grabbing the chance and setting off alone.  Adventure awaits!
